Day 6

January 8

Psalm 119:41-48 (NIV)

Many times, throughout Scripture, Jesus is called “The Word of God” to help us understand His overall mission in our lives as our Redeemer— to reveal His Father to us.
In these verses, it stands out that ‘The Word’ (“your promise” i.e. Jesus in v.41b) first enters our lives to connect us to God’s Love offered to us in Salvation. (V.41a)
That connection then brings a radical transformation including boldness in the face of taunting, a confident trust and a mind galvanized in Truth, giving rise to Eternal Hope grounded in God’s unchangeable Laws. (vv. 42-44)
That Heavenly perspective leads to a joyful obedience, liberating us into a life of true freedom (v.45)— freedom by The Holy Spirit, to live as children of God, under the ‘Law of the Spirit of life that sets us free from the law of sin and death’ (Romans 8:2). Then, when Jesus is enthroned in our hearts as ‘The Word of God’, we can even ‘face the kings of this world’, without even blinking, in full assurance of undaunted faith (v.46)— because “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17).
But best of all, when ‘The Word of God’ reigns in our hearts and minds, we have personal daily access to God Himself through reading and meditating upon His Word in prayer (vv. 47-48).
As we do so, we find ourselves existentially connected to God’s thoughts— His very mind, will and emotions— made dynamically and relationally present and real to us by the Ministry of The Holy Spirit, who causes Christ ‘to dwell in our hearts by faith’. (Ephesians 3:16-19).
Prayer: Heavenly Father, by Your Word, bring me into Your Presence today and “I will speak of your statutes before kings and will not be put to shame”.  Amen.
