Being Spirit led is a broad practice in a disciple’s life because it affects every area. It is listening with every part of your being to where God’s Spirit wants to lead you. It emphasizes being led. The Holy Spirit is God’s gift to help, so the Spirit led disciple commits to following the Holy Spirit and learning more about Him.

Verse 9: But when the Spirit of Christ empowers your life, you are not dominated by the flesh but by the Spirit. And if you are not joined to the Spirit of the Anointed One, you are not of him.
Verse 14: The mature children of God are those who are moved by the impulses of the Holy Spirit.

What experiences do you have with the Holy Spirit?

When it comes to the baptism of the Holy Spirit:
  • What excites you?
  • What confuses you? (As a group, seek resources to help bring clarity to this confusion).

Check out these 6 basic functions of the Holy Spirit in our lives (there are many more than this, however!).
Which one of these leadings is the most apparent in your walk with Jesus?
Which one of these leadings is the most foreign to you?

1. Dwell in us
John 14:17: Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees Him not, neither knows Him: but you know Him; for He dwells with you, and shall be in you
-In what ways has having the Holy Spirit dwell in you change certain areas of your life? What areas do you still need to hand over to Him?

2. Teach us all things
John 14:26: But the Comforter, who is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things
-How are you actively pursuing the Holy Spirit in a way that helps you to learn more about Him?
-What questions do you still have that you would like to find an answer to?  Write them down and research them, or ask for guidance.

3. Bring remembrance of all things Jesus said
John 14:26: But the Comforter, who is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you
-Can you remember a time in your life where you felt the Holy Spirit comfort you? Think over that and thank Him for being that comfort.
-What words of Jesus do you need to speak over your life in this season?  Search scripture and write these verses down to help remind you of the truth that He speaks.

4. Testifies of Jesus Christ
John 15:26: But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, He shall testify of me
-In what ways can I share Christ with others?  What, if anything, has kept me from doing that? Pray that God would help you overcome any fears or roadblocks that may keep you from doing this.

5. Convict world of sin
John 16:8: And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
-Is there anything in your life right now that you feel the Holy Spirit convicting you in?
Speak them out to Him and repent; asking that the Holy Spirit will help you to overcome.

6. Guide us in all truth
John 16:13: However when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak
-Is there a decision, opportunity, or question that you need guidance in right now?  How could you include the Holy Spirit in the pursuit of an answer?
